Reigning T20 champions Tornado continued their chase a season cup double as they defeated Charity Trust Fund by four wickets in a Multiple Industries Division One game at the University Oval in Kyambogo on Sunday.
Tornado skipper Frank Nsubuga won the toss and stuck in the opponents. He (3/21), along with vice-captain Benjamin Musoke (3/14) picked three wickets apiece as Charity were all out for 69 runs in 26 overs with only Simon Ssesaazi (16) reaching the double figures.
Musoke picked the man-of-match honour after his unbeaten 17 runs as Tornado reached 70 runs with 32 overs to spare. Charity skipper Jonathan Ssebanja (2/13) and Ssesaazi (2/12) shared four wickets.
Tornado moved to 52 points, on level with Wanderers atop the eight-team log. Wanderers’ clash with champions Patidar Samaj at Lugogo Oval was called off after the latter fell short of numbers.
Uganda Cricket Association competitions’ committee is yet to sit and decide on whether to reschedule the game or award points to Wanderers.
At Jinja SS Oval, Nile skipper Martin Ondeko struck 59 runs they chased down a 190-run target enroute a two-wicket victory over struggling Rounders. Nile moved to 34 points, the same tally with fourth-placed Charity.
In the Divison II ties, SVPC beat Tamil Lions by 26 runs (Duckworth Method) at Budo grounds. Warriors defended their 139 runs to dispatch Tornado B by 57 runs at the lakeside Oval in Entebbe.
