Tornado in search for first title

T20 MEHTA PREMIER LEAGUE
SEMI-FINAL: Tornado vs. JACC – Lugogo
There is nothing to doubt if you’ve heard that Tornado Cricket Club is one of the big teams in women’s cricket in Uganda and probably in the East Africa region though the sport at the club level is yet to be tested.
Yes all good, well known but this side, led by Concy Aweko, is yet to put silverware in their cabinet. For the men, they recently cleared the cob webs and landed the National T20 League at the cost of Charity earlier this year.
At this time, they (women) have a good crop of talent that can phase out this trophy thirst. Often they have come close but failed to notch the top most prize. As the Mehta T20’s reach the crucial bend, Aweko and teammates are taking this as the best opportunity. “We badly need a trophy,” Aweko told Kawowo Sports.
Tornado will play Jinja side JACC in one of the semi-finals of the five-team tourney. They topped the charts in the regular season, picking seven wins out of eight to amass 43 points while JACC finished fourth on 14 points. “This is the chance we have come close to win some silverware,” said Franklyn Najjumba.
Currently, Najjumba has scored 100 runs in seven innings and she is top on the bowling stat chart with 16 wickets, four maidens for a loss of 62 runs in the T20 contests.
