Charity pursue T20 title defence

T20 MEHTA PREMIER LEAGUE
SEMI-FINAL
Wanderers vs. Charity TF – Kyambogo
Beating all sides to the top is never easy and Charity Trust Fund will yet again take further strides as they seek to reclaim this year’s women’s Mehta T20 Premier League crown. “It is a mountain to climb,” Charity skipper Flavia Laker reckons. “But to be the best, you have to defeat the best,” she adds.
And this is the confidence all her other teammates will carry when they play Wanderers in a semi-final of the T20 contests at the University in Kyambogo on Saturday.
“We want to retain the silverware,” Laker, whose side defeated Wanderers to win this year’s 50-over league, said.
“It is a journey that we have to go all the way,” she said.
But Charity slipped to Tornado and they finished 10 points behind leaders Tornado (43) in the regular season. “Those times often come when we fall, but we occasionally rise up,” If Charity beat Wanderers, they will be just a step away from retaining their trophy and summing up the season with a cup double.
Laker has picked six wickets and four maidens from her 23.0 overs and scored 95 runs from eight innings during this year’s T20. Her batting arsenal has usually done without national team skipper Barbarah Mukankusi (63 runs) who has often had a busy academic schedule.
