Heathens clash with Kobs in Uganda Cup final

UGANDA CUP FINAL
Heathens vs Kobs (5pm)
NATIONWIDE
Tigers vs KK Stallions (3pm)
There is already a lot of pride at stake. When the two sides face off, it’s the biggest game in the sport’s circles. MTN Heathens missed out on last year’s final but are back to face titleholders DMark Kobs in the Uganda Cup final.
It will be a victory worth cherishing for the eventual winner for the clash will be one at a time when the country has just celebrated 50 years of self-rule from the British. Heathens’ streak of four successive Nile Special Rugby Premier League titles, four of the last five Ecobank 7s titles and the irregularity in holding the Makerere 10s, has left little or nothing for the rest.
And this will give the Kobs the zeal to fight on for something at Kyadondo ground on Saturday afternoon. The two giants last met in this competition in the final two years ago with Kobs winning 14-10 and Heathens’ coach Brian Tabaruka reckons their opponents hold the upperhand. Kobs confront a machine that hasn’t lost a 15s game at their Kyadondo home since 2009. Kobs’ 20-19 victory then is fading fast.
In the semis, Heathens had a timid first half before the Faisal Gamma and Michael Wokorach came off the bench to turn the screw with the latter among the tries. Richard Barigye, Brian Kikawa and Ochwo got the others. Kobs are not having a similar problem. Their backline shared seven tries in the quarterfinal feast on Toyota Buffaloes and a further three out of four against Mongers.
