Nemo Stars defeated Nkumba in game one of the national volleyball playoffs finals 3-1 (26-24, 25-18, 25-17, 25-17) in a game that started on Thursday morning.
Nkumba struggled with their reception as their opponents worked tireless to keep up with inexperienced setter Smith Okumu. Led by skipper George Aporu, Nemo showed why they finished the regular season undefeated.
“We have goals to achieve this season and being champions in a major tournament is one of them,” said Aporu. Disappointment was written all over Nkumba’s faces as they vowed to bounce back in game two.
“I don’t even what I can say, but it has been a nice game for them,” “We have tasted it, we just need to work a little harder in our defense,” said Nkumba coach cum setter Albert Gayi.
Ndejje-KAVC
Lead by skipper Bellindah Jeptrio, Peace Busingye and setter Jesca Kaidu Ndejje fought tooth and nail to see off KAVC 3-2 (20-25, 23-25, 25-21, 27-24, and 17-15) in a game that had the last two sets ne decided on duce.
Ndejje coach Jonathan Kawenyera tried to keep pressure off his girls as by writing the game but changed his mind when he saw KAVC not really in the mood in winning.
“We had written this game off because of fatigue in my girls, we didn’t have enough time to recover after the semis” “We kept on saying if we are moving on the same pace we can beat them, but if we have enough time together, it will be easier,” Kawenyera said.
Many would have thought that Ndejje thrived of their young age to sidekick KAVC but deputy skipper Alice Gitta thinks otherwise. “Our block became weak as their attacker Maureen (Mwamula) started hitting us yet we had tried to stop her in the first set,” Gitta said.

KAVC will afford to have a smile on hhiet faces once game two comes around after their men’s junior side beat Mulago 3-1 (25-22, 33-35, 25-18, 25-22,).
Cubs proved stubborn to fellow serie B-side as they thrashed Mulago 3-1. Game two of the series will be played on October 31 in the Lugogo Arena.
