Maiden finalists in the national volleyball playoffs finals, Nemo Stars insist that Respect should be the name of the game when they face off with Nkumba in game two next week. Nemo coach Anthony Ndawula, whose last employer was the university side, believes that the current league champions took his side for granted in game one.
Nemo thrashed Nkumba 3-1 (26-24, 18-25, 25-17, 25-17) to take possession of the best of five series. “If our opponents are not going to respect us they will see really what we can inflict on them,” said Ndawula.
“Because it was obvious they did not respect us, yet we gave them their respect as defending champions,” he added. Nkumba’s reception was too lethargic, which mired the dominance of setters Albert Gayi and John Bosco Opendi.
Nkmba’s power attackers also failed to get a breakthrough in Nemo’s double block all night. “What happened today (Thursday morning) had nothing to do with belittling anyone, everything just went wrong for us,” said Nkumba coach Gayi. “We have tasted it and we know what to work on going into game two.” He added. In the women, last year’s finalists Ndejje bounced from two sets down to disposes old guns KAVC 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 25-21, 27-24, and 17-15).
In a game libero Sheila Omuriwe struggled with flue which later affected her sight throughout the five set. Her reception was outstanding and kept KAVC in the game for long spells. KAVC cubs also imposed themselves on Mulago 3-1 (25-22, 33-35, 25-18, 25-22,) in a game that had set two decided on duce 35.
