Kenyan based Zambian Modecai Kabamba was in top form as he beat Uganda’s Michael Kawooya 3-2 to claim the Nakuru Squash Open Championship over the weekend.
Kawooya went down to his more experienced opponent falling 11-9,10-12,11-8,6-11,12-10. “It was important for my and my colleagues to come down to Kenya to play here cause it gives as opportunity to expose ourselves and get experience,” the Uganda top seed said. The other Uganda player who travelled for the tournament was Ian Kajubu who was beaten by the Kabamba in the semi-finals 3-2.
Enroute to the finals Kawooya beat Kenya’s Leon Keya 11-8,11-5,11-4. The Ugandan top seed will next month be participating in the Cup of Saint Petersburg 2012 squash tournament.
The Ugandan ace squash player has been using the tournament as a build-up to his challenge in Moscow, Russia.
