Over 30 drivers across the region are expected to take part in the two-day elite Tanzania Guru Nanak Rally this weekend in Tanzania. The event has so far attracted participants from five countries among them Zambia and Rwanda. Host Tanzania leads the pack with over 15 drivers while Uganda and Kenya will also be sending their drivers to spin the wheels at the prestigious annual Rally.
New National Rally Champion (NRC) Jas Mangat is expected to race in the event. “The entry from Uganda is the one who seems to command great fear here.” Arusha Motor Sports Club (AMSC) official Stephen Lohay said that the inclusion of foreign drivers in this year’s Guru Nanak Rally was an indication that it has retained its continental reputation.
Names for participants from Zambia and Rwanda were yet to be confirmed by the time of writing this report. Even Burundi which was expected to debut in the championship this year is yet to be heard so far.
The rally route is mapped within mostly around the hills and landscapes of Monduli District and the event has attracted a large number of both foreign and local entries.
This event has been sponsored by The Sikh Community of Arusha in association with Zenith Media, Authentic Emergency Services Ltd, Intelligence Securico Ltd, Media Works, Aqua King, Temi Investment (T) Ltd and Sampat Associates Insurance Brokers Ltd. Mangat, one of the most feared drivers in Uganda and East Africa at large, will likely face stiff challenge from Dharam Pandya, the current fastest driver in the AAT seeding points standing. Also tipped to shine in the event are local drivers Amarjit Dhillon, Sartaj Hans, Rish Lodhia, Luois Bonzon, Eric Comarc and Robert Sanders.
