Prisons (Men) and Nkumba University (Women) Handball Clubs are set to represent Uganda at the 24th Edition of the East and Central Handball Championships scheduled to kick off on on Monday 4th November at Nyayo Indoor Stadium in Nairobi Kenya. “I expect my team to lift the title in Nairobi Isha Allah”, says Nkumba University team Coach, Isa Assimwe whose team travels to the Kenyan capital Sunday evening by Modern Coast Buses.

His Prisons counterpart, Rodrick, too was beaming in anticipation of  positive results from the regional meet. “Kenyan teams have always posed a big threat, but this team round, Prisons is the team to beat”, he said. Kenya National Cereals and Produce Board who are champions in both categories (men and women) will be defending their titles after a relatively easy outing last year in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

However this year the Cereals women’s team expect stiff competition from their arch rivals Nairobi Water who finished 2nd in the 2011/2012 after a tough encounter in the finals of the League play-offs in which they won by a single point , 27-26.

Eight teams from Kenya have so far confirmed participation in the regional competition with Defence Forces side Ulinzi opting to stay away from the tournament while Glorious Handball Club are yet to confirm their participation. Team’s expected to participate include Rwanda Police,DRC Congo,Ethiopia Police, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda and Zanzibar among others.

Nakamya Jesica, Nakiyinji Prossy (Goal Keepers), Namuwaya Muhaimina, Namusisi Faridah, Namukasa Dorren (Captain), Rose Baaki, Sauya Nakamya, Betty Nakamya, Atim Olivia, Alupo Carol, Nakanjako Diana “Rasta”, Namulimu Shamimu and Issa Assimwe (Head Coach).
