Uganda was left as an alternative venue, alongside Rwanda to host Africa CAVB Youth Volleyball Championship slated to take place next year. It comes after neighbours Kenya under their body the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) withdrew their bid to host glamorous event last week.

Kenya’s failure to leaves Uganda with an advantage if they host according to beach volleyball chairman Mophaft Masaba. “This would be a plus to our team. They can bank on the home support and also the costs incurred are less,” Masaba told Kawowo Sports.

The Lugogo Indoor Arena, MUBS and Namboole Stadium volleyball courts would be the selected venues for the event, according to Masaba. If all goes well and Uganda hosts the tournament, it will be the first continental volleyball showpiece here.

The continental body wanted them to host the tourney before the end of January. Meanwhile KVF chairman Waithaka Kioni admitted that the federation could not commit themselves in hosting the event following high charges required to hire the Nairobi’s Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani gymnasium.
