Uganda can now host an International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) tournament after the country raised the number of required officials.
In 2008, Uganda applied to host the 2020 Africa Juniors and Cadet Games but were rebuffed by ITTF for lack of enough qualified umpires. However, Uganda now stand a chance to host future big events following the completion of an eight-day training course for umpires and coaches.
“We now have 48 level one coaches and umpires,” the Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) boss Dennis Galabuzi said while passing out 15 umpires that successful completed the training early this week.
The course, conducted by France-based Ugandan international umpire Ronald Mugwanya, equipped the trainees with new rules and regulations of the game.
Already Uganda is in preparations to put in a bid to continental soccer body CAF to host the 2019 AFCON here in Kampala with partners Kenya and Tanzania.
Also scheduled to be hosted is the Africa Cross Country championships in 2014, according to Uganda Athletics Federation president Domenic Otucet.
