Uganda’s top squash player Michael Kawooya is set for the prestigious Cup of Saint Petersburg squash tournament that swings into action from November 23-25 in Russia. Kawooya will be making his debut in this international tournament. He will be the first and only African player taking part in this event with the majority of the players coming from the host country,Eastern Europe and elsewwhere. ‘It’s an important tournament for me and for Uganda as a whole,” Kawooya said. ‘I am looking forward to gaining experience at the same time using this to prepare for Commonwealth games in Scotland in 2014 and the 2020 Olympics.” It will be Kawooya’s second international trip this year having participated in the Prince Grand Prix in South Africa in September. The squash ace is reeling from a defeat against his training mate Ian Rukunya Kajubu in the Castle Lite Squash Open championship recently.
