Finally, Ugandans Ivan Anguyo and Dan Sserunkuma can afford a smile after their Gor Mahia FC side beat Sofapaka 3-0 in post match penalty shoot out to lift the 2012 FKF cup at Nyao stadium.

Both sides settled for a barren draw in the 90 minutes forcing the game into extra time which also saw no team find the back of the net thus ensuring a penalty shoot-out which Gor edged.

During the shoot-out, former Maroons FC defender Ivan Anguyo converted the first kick for Gor Mahia before Moses Odhiambo and Ramah Salim also did.

Gor Mahia’s custodian Ivan Mapunda who stood in for first choice Jerim Onyango who opted out due to personal reasons was the day’s hero saving Eugene Asika and Abdallah Juma’s spot kicks while Humphrey Mieno blasted his over the bar.

Sserunkuma played for an hour before being replaced with Edwin Lavasta while Anguyo lasted the entire match and converted the first penalty.

The victory was greeted with cheers by K’Ogalo after narrowly losing the league title to Tusker FC on the league’s final day.

This was Gor Mahia’s second FKF Cup trophy in a row. Incidentally, the side also defeated Batoto Bamungu in last year’s final with a 1-0 score line.
