Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) head Rtd. Col. Kizza Besigye is entered for the ninth edition of the MTN Kampala Marathon. The 56-year-old will be among the 20000 runners who will hit the Kampala streets on Sunday morning.

“I am going to support the people of Bududa” he told the media shortly after registration at the Lugogo MTN Arena. He will go for the longest bit, 42km and according to Police Deputy spokesperson Vincent Ssekatte, the former presidential aspirant is free to run.

Besigye also attended the return of Zambia and Uganda 2013 Afcon clash on October 13 at Namboole Stadium. His presence caused scenes and fracas in the pavilion before kickoff. Uganda were bundled out on penalty shootouts after ending the tie 1-all on aggregate.

Several other politicians have taken part in the event before like Jim Muhwezi, Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga and Katumba Wamala.

Meanwhile, athletes from Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania have started jetting in for the event.
