KAMPALA. The Eastern Region is already talking big ahead of the Uganda Volleyball Federation Presidents’ cup, as they claim to be the back born of Uganda volleyball.

The team that will be coached by Nemo Star’s assistant Juma Osengu has eight players who played in the league final between Nkumba and Nemo Stars.

George Aporu, Eric Ojamuge, Anthony Oleuko, Kassim Opejo, all featured for Nemo Stars while JohnBosco Opendi, Ambrose otwao, Jensen Chestit, and Mohammed Nepo Angiro all turned for Nkumba.

“Other regions have disputed that the east is the best, this competition will surely provide the best if not the ultimate platform to settle this debate,” Osunge said.

“The east is spoiled for choice with at least 5 top players in the country in each position,” added Nkumba’s otwao.

The President’s Cup is meant to recognize the efforts by past presidents of the federation.

The inaugural tournament last year was played as park volleyball in honor of Sadik Nasiwu’s predecessor Tom Omongole (RIP).

“The background now is to commemorate past presidents of the federation present and deceased,” said UVF vice president Nason Bwesigye.

The first two presidents served the Uganda volleyball Association before Federation of International Volleyball board changed the requirement to federation in 1996.
