Uganda’s first choice custodian for the Cecafa Tusker Challenge Cup 2012 Abel Dhaira has been ruled out of the tournament with a suspected cracked jaw.

The IBV FC goal keeper of the year was stretchered off the pitch in the 58th minute of Uganda Cranes 1-0 win over Kenya in their opening match of group A after colliding with Kenyan striker Ramah Salim and defenders Henry Kalungi and Isaac Isinde.

The lanky custodian received medication on and later off the pitch before being rushed to Mulago hospital where he was later discharged on Saturday night with no reports of broken limbs as suspected before.

However, results from the scan on Sunday indicated that Dhaira might have cracked a jaw and has been advised to take a two week break an implication that he can only make a comeback after the tournament is done.

“Cranes goalkeeper Dhaira Abel ruled out of this year’s Cecafa with a suspected cracked jaw. Medic’s have advised him to take a two-week break”, read a statement from the Cranes camp.

It will be the second time in his career that he has suffered a nasty injury in the Cecafa tournament after he suffered the same feat in 2008.

Vipers SC goalie Hamza Muwonge will take over the first choice goalie role deputised by SC Victoria University’s Ali Kimera.
