Tanzania 2-0 Sudan

A first half brace from John Bocco was all Tanzania needed to sink wasteful Sudan in the second game of group B played at Mandela Stadium, Namboole.

The Azam FC centre forward netted in the 16th and 28th minute to ensure the Taifa Stars started the tournament on a high.

Kim Poulsen’s side dominated proceedings in the opening minutes with Mrisho Ngassa and Bocco combining well to torment the Falcon of Jedaine back line.

The Sudanese however put a put a hard fighting performance in the second half and should have gotten at least gotten on the score sheet but were denied by the good goal keeping skills of Ahmed Kasejja.

John Bocco should have completed a hat trick on the day in the closing stages of the game but missed a clear cut chance.

The win was sweet revenge for the main land country after suffering 1-0 defeat at the hands of Sudan in a third place play off in last year’s tournament held in Dar Salaam.

The win leaves Tanzania second on three points in group B just behind Burundi which hammered Somalia 5-1 on goal difference.

Games resume tomorrow (Monday) in group C with Rwanda taking on Malawi at 6pm and Eritrea versus Zanzibar at 4pm
