Harambe Stars got their first victory of the 2012 Cecafa Tusker Challenge Cup 2012 thanks to a 2-0 win over South Sudan in a match played at Namboole Tuesday afternoon. The Stars scored through David Ochieng and Cliffton Miheso in the first and second half respectively.

David Ochieng opened the scoring for James Nandwa’s side as early as the 14th minute when he headed home Paul Were’s corner. From then on, Kenya dominated proceedings and also most doubled their lead through Paul Were who started ahead of Clifton Miheso who was disappointing in the game against Uganda.

The Bright Stars of South Sudan however tried to gain composure and started taking the game to the Kenyans but custodian Duncan Ochieng contained whatever was thrown at him to ensure Harambe Stars ended the first half on top.

After recess, Zoran Dordjevic’s side again looked brighter and threatened with numerous attacks but were denied by poor finishing. In the 76th minute, substitute Clifton Miheso made it 2-0 for Kenya with the easiest tap in from a low cross on the right.

The Kenyans held on till the final whistle to pick their first victory of the campaign which lifted them to first place in group A on goal difference as Uganda and Ethiopia had not played yet.
