Somalia 0-1 Sudan

Farid Muhammad’s late strike was all Sudan needed to sink hard fighting Somalia in a Cecafa group B match played on Wednesday afternoon at Mandela national stadium, Namboole.

The striker beat Somalia’s offside trap in the 87th minute before rounding off the custodian Abd Elrahman Ali to slot home the game’s only goal.

The Falcons of Jedaine dominated proceedings in the opening 45 minutes but could not break a resilient Ocean Stars defence.

The first half whistle was blown with both goals failing to breach each others’ defence.

In the second half, Ssimbwa’s Somalia regained control of the game and launched numerous attacks on the Sudanese but the Falcons stood tall.

Sudan even survived a penalty scare in the 70th minute after Mohammad el Murtada was fouled on the edge of the 18 yard box by the Sudan’s left back.

As the game looked like settling for a barren draw, Farid Muhammad slotted home to send a few watching Sudanese fans into rapture.

The win leaves Sudan on three points in third place while Somalia remained rooted to the bottom. Table leading Burundi and second placed Tanzania had to face off in the next game of the day.
