Mandela National Stadium, Namboole – 4.00pm Live on SS9East

Three time champions Malawi resume their quest for maiden victory in the Cecafa Tusker Challenge Cup on Thursday afternoon when they take on minnows Eritrea in the first of the two group ‘C’ matches at Namboole stadium.

The Flames go into this game with knowledge that short of victory will end their campaign in the tournament even with a game against Zanzibar left.

Malawi lost their opening game 2-0 to Mitcho’s Amavubi Stars despite playing some beautiful game of football that saw them dominate Rwanda in the opening minutes of the game.

Coach Kinnah Phiri is expected to maintain a similar team that played against Rwanda with Chimango Kayira, Joseph Kamwendo and Green Harawa expected to lead the hunt for goals while George Nyirenda who had a wonderful first game is expected to marshal the rear guard.

On the opposite bench, Eritrean Coach Teklit Negash whose side drew goal less with Zanzibar will put trust in Tesfalem Tekle and Yonatan Solomon to search for goals.

Malawi is bottom placed in the group with no point while Eritrea and Zanzibar are level on a single point behind Rwanda which has three.

In the late game in the group, Rwanda takes on Zanzibar.
