The journey to glory at this year’s edition of the Tusker CECAFA Challenge Cup started slow for the Malawi Flames with a 2-0 loss to the Rwanda’s Amavubi Stars on match day three. But all is back to normal after they defeated Zanzibar 2-0 to book a ticket to the last eight of the edition at Wankulukuku Stadium on Saturday.

The three points earned by Malawi to tally six points came as a result of Ndaziona Chatsalia (3′) and Chiukepo Msowoya (6′) early goals. Unlike this game, Malawi a final kicker to win their second match 3-2 against Eritrea on day six. Malawi finished second behind leaders Rwanda who carried a better goal difference after a 2-0 win over Eritrea.

in the 2011 version, Malawi finished top of Group C with five points in Tanzania. Despite the loss, Zanzibar’s four points were enough to earn them a place in the quarterfinals as first of the second best sides from all the three tournament groups.
