Burundi 0-0 Zanzibar (Zanzibar eliminates Burundi 6-5 on penalties)

1995 Champions Zanzibar are through to the semi-finals of the 2012 Cecafa Tusker Cup 2012 after eliminating Burundi 6-5 on post match penalties after playing to a goal less draw in the 90 minutes.

Abdallah Othman scored the winning penalty after Burundi’s Fiston Abdoul had missed in the winner takes it all kicks after drawing 4-4 in the five mandatory kicks.

Burundi skipper Selemani Ndikumana and his counterpart Nadir ‘Cannavaro’ Haroub missed theirs.

It was a dull entire minutes of football as both sides failed to hit top gear as both teams were blunt in front of goal.

Zanzibar’s Juma Jaku Juma was a culprit for missing a number of clear cut chances while goalie Ally Mwadini made a number of saves to deny Burundi’s Ndikumana and Christopher Nduwagira an opportunity to get on the score sheet in normal time.

With 90 minutes of a barren draw, the game had to be decided on penalties

Khamis Mcha Khamis, Adeyom Saleh Ahmed, Juma Jaku Juma, Nuhu Haji Samih, Aggrey Morris and Abdallah Othman scored Zanzibar’s penalties while Styve Nzigamasabo, Amisi Tabwe, Christopher Nduwagira, Leopold Nkurikiye and Gael Duhatindayishimiye converted for Zanzibar.

Zanzibar will now meet the winner between Kenya and Malawi on Thursday at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Zanzibar’s only championship was won in Uganda in 1995.
