Uganda Cranes became the latest team to reach the last four of the 2012 Cecafa Tusker Cup after defeating four time winners Ethiopia 2-0 in the quarter finals match played at Namboole on Tuesday evening.

Geoffrey Kizito and Robert Ssentongo struck Uganda’s two goals in the first and second half respectively to condemn Ethiopia to its second defeat by the Cranes in a space of seven days.

Kawowo Sports’ Ismael Kiyonga was at Namboole and rates each of the Uganda Cranes players that Bobby fielded on the day. The rating is out of ten and based on personal observation of the performance on the day.

HAMZA MUWONGE 6.0: He spent most of the game as a spectator since Ethiopians didn’t threaten a lot especially in the first half. He however made a good save in the second half to ensure the team maintained their clean sheet record. His ball distribution was also fantastic.

DENIS GUMA 6.5: He was solid defensively but still lacks the marauding skills of a modern right full back as he wasted possession on a number of occasions. Good day at office though.

HENRY KALUNGI 6.0: He made some good interceptions and his decision making was also fine. He also read the game well.

ISAAC ISINDE 7.5: He was as hard as rock. He didn’t put a foot wrong. He read the game well, fantastic decision making, passing was extra ordinary and kept danger man Fikur at bay for the entire game. He continues to show the technical team that his time to command a starting place is now.

GODFREY WALUSIMBI 6.5: He was solid at the back but also got time off to go offensive when necessary. He was just unlucky not to appear on the assists sheet after playing two good cross into the forbidden area which the strikers failed to put away.

HASSAN WASSWA 6.0: His game in this tournament is yet to hit top gear but was a willing work and used his big frame well to frustrate the Ethiopians. His passing was also good.

GEOFFREY ‘BABA’ KIZITO 7.5: He is a gem in midfield. He scored Uganda’s opening goal with a cool finish and was tireless throughout the game. He initiated attacks from midfield and his vision was also awesome.

MOSES OLOYA 7.5: He created Uganda’s second goal and was also involved in the first. He continues to show why he is the man to solve Uganda’s creativity problems. He however faded in the second half.

ROBERT SSENTONGO 7.0: He scored Uganda’s second goal to kill off the game. He worked hard throughout the game and showed Bobby Williamson why he must command a starting place on the team. Two goals in two starts is not a poor statistic at all.

HAMIS KIIZA 6.5: He started on the left wing in a three man attacker and did well. He kept possession so well but wasted two chances when he failed to shoot on target with ball at his feet. Substituted for Said Kyeyune in the closing stages of the game.

BRIAN UMONY 5.0: He was involved in the first goal as his blocked shot met Kizito who put it away but was wasteful in possession on a number of occasions. He missed a clear opportunity with only the goal keeper to beat in the 30th minute and was stretchered off the pitch with 20 minutes on the clock.

SUBSTITUTES:

EMMANUEL OKWI 5.0: He came on for the injured Brian Umony but still failed to get first goal of the campaign after missing two clear opportunities.
