Harambe Stars coach James Nandwa was ecstatic after Kenya beat Malawi Flames a 1-0 to progress to the last four of this year’s Cecafa Tusker Cup according to Super sport. A solitary strike by Mike Baraza in the 60th minute broke the deadlock as Kenya set up a date with Zanzibar on Thursday.
“We came into the tournament at a disadvantage, having had very few days to train as a unit,” Nandwa told Super Sport. “We went on to lose the first match but we managed to pick up after the second match,” added Nandwa.
“Making the semi-finals is a big achievement by itself and I must indeed say that I am very proud of the team for their commitment.” Nandwa plans to apply the same tactics he used against Malawi, steering clear of any mistakes.
“The finals are now within reach and I am confident that the team I have in my charge will get past the upcoming challenge and represent the country in the last stage of the tournament,” he added.
“Who knows, we might end up taking the title home,” said the optimistic tactician Kenya finished second behind Uganda in Group A, which also had South Sudan and Ethiopia.
