Uganda’s top lady golfer Flavia Namakula, will get into the fray tomorrow when the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters tees off at the magnificent Emirates Golf Club, in Dubai with the Pro Am getting underway and the shotgun.
The UPDF corporal will be seeking to turn professional and at the same time keep Uganda’s flag flying high in this prestigious tournament that has attracted top world lady golfers like defending champion Lexi Thompson from USA, Hee Kyung Seo from South Korea,Laura Davies from England and Shanshan Feng from China.
Namakula’s efforts to attain world stardom wouldn’t have been possible without the help offered by leading mobile phone company MTN who gave her $5195(sh13.8m) she has been accompanied to the tournament by Nile Breweries Peter Sunday.
The tournament has a prize money of €500,000 (Shs1.7b)however it gives Namakula a great opportunity to put her skills to test with the best and also include Michelle Wie, Seo Hee-Kyung, Cindy Lacrosse and Dubai-based Kavita Sehmi.
The tournament concludes on December 8.The tournament is being held under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein,wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
