Mandela National Stadium, Namboole – 4.00pm Live on SS9 East

Fireworks is expected on Thursday afternoon at Mandela national stadium when Zanzibar Heroes meet Kenya’s Harambe Stars in the semi-finals of the 2012 Cecafa Tusker Cup.

Zanzibar eliminated Burundi 6-5 on penalties to reach this stage while Kenya edged guests Malawi 1-0 in the quarter final game played at Namboole on Tuesday.

The two sides will be hoping to reach the finals of the competition in a country where both last played at the stage.

Zanzibar didn’t only reach the finals in 1995 in Uganda but also beat the hosts’ team B 1-0 to lift their only Cecafa title in history while Kenya lost 1-0 to Uganda in 2008 at Namboole thanks to Brian Umony’s solitary strike.

Coach James Nandwa’s side will be boosted by the recalled Paul Were and Kevin Omondi who will be available for selection after the FKF pardoned them for misconduct.

Ramah Salim, Mike Barasa and Victor Ochieng are also available for selection up front while midfield maestro Humphrey Mieno is expected to be in the centre of the pack.

With Bernard M’angoli yet to be declared match fit after limping off in the 1-0 win over Malawi, returning Kevin Omondi may be included in the starting team.

On the opposite technical bench, Zanzibar Coach Salum Nassor is expected to play big striker Jaku Juma Jaku as the lone man up front a role he executed well against Burundi with two goal hero against Rwanda Khamis Mcha Khamis and Suleyman Kassim Suleyman offering support on the wings.

Captain Nadir ‘Cannavaro’ Haroub will be tasked to keep things tight at the back. The winner of this match meets either Tanzania or Uganda who will be playing an hour later in the finals on Saturday.
