A late winner from Geoffrey Baba Kizito was all Uganda Cranes needed to retain the Cecafa Tusker Challenge Cup after beating Kenya 2-1 in the finals played at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

In a tense game, Uganda took the lead in the 27th minute when Anthony Kimani diverted Robert Ssentongo’s would be cross into his own net as a result of pressure from Joseph Ochaya,

Kenya leveled matters in the second half through Edwin Lavasta in the 87th minute after a good byline pass from substitute Paul Were.

The Cranes however responded immediately with an attack down the right forcing Kenya left fullback Abdallah Juma into a hand ball on the edge of the area. Robert Ssentongo took the resultant free kick which Geoffrey Kizito headed into the net to send the Cranes fans at Namboole into rapture.

The Cranes held on till the final whistle to win the trophy for a record 13 times.
