Five days ago, David Oringa lost 6-1 6-3 to seed four Italian Riccardo Sinicropi at the second round of the main draw of the second Rwanda International Tennis Federation (ITF) Futures. This put an end to his four-week tour around Burundi and Rwanda after partaking in three ITF circuit tournaments.
The 19-year-old is not resting but already in early preparations for three other circuits early next year in South Africa but he is yet to get a sponsor. “I need about 1500US dollars (Shs.4m),” Oringa, who returned home on Friday night, told Kawowo Sports.
While in Burundi and Rwanda, Oringa used about 700 US dollars (Shs.1.9m) in expenditures all from the Uganda Charity Trust Fund and Muhumuza Mpeka.
Oringa finished with just a point after defeating homeboy Dieudonne Habiyambere 2-6 6-1 6-2 to reach the last 16 of the second circuit in Kigali seven days ago.
Despite scoring the point, Oringa was not contented and he expects to perform better in the subsequent tournaments. “I have to improve. I need to enter more tournaments, score points and gain exposure.”
