Uganda’s team to the 11th FINA World Swimming Championships 25m departed for the the event in Istanbul,Turkey yesterday as they seek to improve on their local records and get international exposure. Uganda’s team is led by exprienced swimmer Ganzi Mugula Semu, who is the skipper others on the team are Conrad Gaira,Catherine Noble and Joshua Ejilikubinza and will be coached by Muzafaru Muwanguzi. ‘Our team is a relatively inexperienced side minus Ganzi and Conrad so we are building on exprience for future international swimming competitions,” Peter Mugisha, the Uganda Swimming Federation secretary said. ‘At this point we are not in position to have side challenging for honors what is important is too show the world that in Uganda and in this region that we are building the sport.” The 25 meters world swimming championships starts on December 12-16 in Istanbul,Turkey. Uganda has been a regular participant at the FINA world swimming championships that is the 25 and 50 meter versions. Mugula replaced Jamila Lunkuse, who was supposed to skipper the young side,but withdrew from the side due too academic commitments at her school. Uganda SwimmIng Federation using this opportunity to prepare a side for Commonwealth games in 2014 in Glasgow,Scotland.
