The boxing season globally hasn’t gone into full force, but Golden Boy promotions that promotes Uganda’s unbeaten lightweight boxer Sharif “The Lion” Bogere, wants its boxers in the 135 pound division to dominate this class and what is likely to see a unification fight later in the year.
First up from the Golden boy camp will be a WBC World lightweight fight between undefeated champion American Adrien Broner and Welshman Gavin Rees at the Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, New Jersey on February 16. Broner is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, which is owned by Boxing Legend Oscar De La Hoya.
Broner will be making his second defense of his crown having beaten Antonio DeMarco in July,last year to claim the crown.
“Looks like I’m fighting Adrian Broner 16th Feb for WBC title massive fight for me an time for me to become 2 weight world champ.” Rees shared a tweet with Kawowo sports. The 32 year old Rees is looking to register one of the biggest upsets in this division.
Rees insists the whole world will know his name after he dethrones Broner come next month. The 23-year-old American admitted he knows little about his forthcoming opponent.
‘I haven’t heard much about him he said. ‘I will train like it’s the biggest fight of my life. I’m a two-weight world champion at 23 and not many people can say that.’
On March 2 Sharif “The Lion” Bogere, will take on Cuban Richard Abril for the vacant WBA World lightweight title in New York at a yet to be established venue if the Ugandan prize fighter wins this fight that will give him the opportunity to unify this division with his stable mate Broner or any other world champion in this very competitive division.
