Hassan Kikoyo’s solitary strike from close range saw off a spirited challenge from Baza Holdings as high flying Kawempe based Bright stars  restored their 4 point lead in the Rwenzori big league group.

Approaching the final curve of the big league season, Bright stars is faced with a fierce battle as the second placed joint teams, Soana and Koboko are just 4 points off the leaders. There are six fixtures to the close of the season, in which the top two teams (from Rwenzori and Elgon groups) qualify directly to the FUFA Super league.

John Kayanja, Bright Star’s head tactician anticipates a very competitive photo finish come the closing stages of the season. ” I have always cautioned my players to play their hearts out, each match is like a final, you slip up, the opponents play catch up”, Kayanja, whose team has led from the first round revealed to Kawowo sports.

Bright stars lead the Rwenzori group with 26 points off 12 games, just 4 points ahead of the second placed duo of Koboko and Soana (22 points) while Soroti Garage, on 20 points after 9 games,  has a point advantage over second placed Mbale Heroes who have also played a game more.

In the other fxtures played, Yassar Mugerwa and Muwawo Faizo’s goals for Nkumba University cancelled out Samuel Musimenta’s opener for Ndejje University in a thrilling match played at Nkumba University. Rwenshama held Jinja Municipal Council to a 1 all statement.

Meanwhile, FUFA has confirmed that the abandoned game between Mbale Heroes and Soroti Garage that was halted due to severe rains will be replayed on Saturday, 9th February 2013. The game will however start from the 32 minute mark,  where play had been stopped.

Quoting Article 32(2) of the FUFA Constitution rules, the secretary FUFA Competitions Committee, Decolas Kiiza, said “In case a match is abandoned as a result of force majeure for any reason after it has already kicked off, the match shall recommence with the same score at the minute at which play was interrupted rather than being replayed in full’.

The match was still goalless by the time of the abandonment. The FUFA Big league resumes over the coming weekend.
