Ndejje – 19 Gold (57 Total Medals)

K.I.U -19 Gold (41 Total Medals)

Kampala University -19 Gold (37 Total medals)

Ndejje University from Luweero District Uganda has ably defended its East Africa universities crown that it won in Kenya 2010 after seeing off a strong challenge from compatriots, Kampala International university and Kampala University that finished second and third respectively at the games played in the coastal town of Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania.

All three Ugandan institutions garnered 19 gold medals but Ndejje came through with a better overall medal count of 57 with Kampala international university having 41 while Kampala University had 37.
Ndejje will be grateful to its track and field team that collected an impregnable 11 gold medals .Ndejje also won both gold medals in badminton, the ladies volleyball crown and others from the pool and martial arts.

Ndejje university sports tutor Paul Mark Kayongo advised his team to avoid complacency especially at the December 2013 Uganda inter-university games at UCU Mukono then at the East Africa university games that will be hosted by a yet to be named Ugandan university in 2014. “The close finish indicates that the universities have done some ground work, we need to stand warned”, a jovial Kayongo said amidst chants from the Ndejje contingent.

Other Ugandan universities in the top ten were Uganda Christian University with eight gold medals in 7th; Gulu University’s 4 gold medals secured position 8 while record champions Makerere university that managed a meager three gold medals finished tenth of the 43 institutions that took part.
Nkumba university that won the men’s volleyball and ladies volleyball gold finished 12th, Kyambogo University that lost athlete Anenochan to injury was 14th with one gold medal she won with her maiden long jump while Makerere university business school that lost the football final to Kampala university was 16th.

The week-long games were however marred by indiscipline perpetuated by Uganda universities at most venues with police intervention needed to quell danger at the track and field and in the martial arts.
