Netherlands based Ugandan professional boxer Farouk Dakku wants to challenge home based Haruna ‘Diba’ Banabana for a vacant national super middleweight title come next month at Club Obligato.
“I want to fight Banabana because I believe he is the guy in my weight category who can give me a good test before I challenge for an African title later this year” explained Dakku whose last fight in Uganda came in 2010 against Oswald Maneno of Tanzania at Club Obligato.
The soft-spoken south paw pugilist who currently stays with his fiancé Sanne, in the Netherlands is currently being handled by Raymond Joval a former International Boxing Organization (IBO) world champion ahead of his upcoming title fights.
In 2011, Dakku relocated to Amsterdam-Netherlands where he has been undergoing intensive training as he bids to revive his career.
The dark-skinned boxer has had three fights since relocating to Netherlands though lost all of them against undefeated super-middleweight champion Gevorg Khatchikian, Marcos Nader (Germany) and to Patrick Nielsen WBA and IBF intercontinental world champion.
“I may have lost these fights but fighting against these whites has exposed me to different techniques and I now feel there is much improvement within me “he said.
“Every morning I run for one and a half hour, in the afternoon I go to wellness professional boxing centre gym while in the evening I do sparing with various boxers under the supervision of my coach.” Dakku added.
He added that if Banabana refuses to fight him he will have to zero on a Tanzanian or Kenyan opponent and challenge for an East and Central Africa Super Middle title.
Efforts to reach Banabana on whether he is ready to take up the fight were futile as his known mobile number was off by press time. Daku boasts of 20 fights 16 wins 4 loses and 8 knockouts where as Banabana’s last fight was against Zebra Senyange but ended in chaos at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.
