All fans and athletes allover the world have kept their eyes most on the 14th World Athletics Championships due August in Russia’s capital, Moscow – the sport’s biggest event this year.

And Uganda’s elite runners are not left out. Sprinter Ali Ngaimoko will lead Police club to the first Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) trials this morning at Namboole stadium.

Ngaimoko will take part in the 200m and 4X400m relay as he starts the road to Moscow. “I am ready and back,” he said. And that will mark his return on track since July last year.

He missed out on the London Olympics after failing beat the qualification mark at the Africa Senior Championships in Benin and the RLG Grand Prix in Kumasi, Ghana.

He limped out with an injury in the latter event that he has nursed for over seven months.

“That was quite a set back for my career but i look forward to a better year this time round,” the 23-year-old said, while resting on Thursday evening.

“My coach is organising a few races for me around Europe in May till late summer.” Ngaimoko, arguably Uganda’s best male sprinter, disclosed to Kawowo Sports.

Last year, Ngaimoko won all his six 100m, 200m and 400m sprints he took part in the four of six trials.

He will take part alongside teammates Godfrey Achiria, Abraham Kiplimo, Benson Chiboriot, Vincent Okot and Emily Nanziri among others.

Athletes will take part in 18 events but hurdles were not included.
