National golf player Willy Deus Kitata and Jinja professional Saidi Mawa, will be eyeing double as the City Tyres sponsored Mehta Open golf championship is set to tee off at the 15 hole Lugazi golf course this Saturday.

In-form Kitata will be eyeing a double at the splendid, but unpredictable course this comes in the wake of the Entebbe based golfer claiming Crane Bank Kabale Easter Open. He has finished fourth and sixth at the Nyali and Muthaiga Opens in Kenya early in the year.

Another player who will be eyeing a similar feat is Jinja’s Mawa, who has made this course a play ground for his success having dominated it as an amateur and will be eyeing a double as a professional.

“I have to persistent through out the year and that is why am taking part in most tournaments here and elsewhere,” Kitata stated recently. “The more tournaments the better for my game as a whole.”

The annual event attracts golfers from Lugazi,Jinja,Entebbe,Kampala,Mbarara,Fort Portal,Kasese,Tororo and Mbale.

It is played over two days with the final round being played on Sunday while the professionals play one round of action.

The two tournament is a prime tournament on the Uganda Golf Union calendar and is hosted by the Mehta Family at the Mehta Lugazi golf course. Leading tyre company dealers City Tyres are the sponsors of this event.
