National golfer Peter Sendawula kept his early form intact by claiming the City Tyres Mehta Open golf championship at the par 70 Mehta Golf Club in Lugazi on Sunday.
The Entebbe based golfer returned to the club house with a perfect 136 nett score after shooting 67 and 69 gross on the two days of action at the picturesque course at Lugazi, this recovery comes a week after he lost to his town mate and defending champion Willy Deus Kitata in the Crane Bank Easter Kabale Open.
“It feels good to win this event and return with it back to Entebbe,” Ssendawula said after his last put at the 18 hole. “I had a great game and my putting was good less for the five that I got on hole 12.”
Last year’s winner Willy Deus Kitata, maintained his early season form by finishing runner-up with a score of 137 nett while another national team player Fort Portal’s Ronald Rugumayo was third with 143 nett.
Group A was won by Lugazi club member Livingstone Wanyama, with a score of 131 nett while group B was won by James Okidi with 125 nett.
The ladies winner group A was Melon Kyomugisha with 139 nett while Group B was taken by Betty Aliyogera for a second year running after finishing with 138 nett while Deo Akope claimed the men’s professionals event with a score eight under par 62 to beat 15 professional golfers.
This was the third time that City Tyres has sponsored this colourful Uganda Golf Union event that attracted 101 golfers from Kampala, Jinja, Tororo, Lugazi,Fort Portal, Kasese, Entebbe and Mbarara.
