National Handball League
Police Kifaru 26 – 27 UPDF (Men)
Nkumba University 33 -18 Ever Green (Women)
Defending champions UPDF struggled past a stubborn Police Kifaru narrowly beating them 27 – 26 at Kyambogo grounds over the weekend .The game that looked like it was going to be a walk over for the army side turned out to be a tough one as most of the Kifaru players were part of the U-20 Uganda National team that was preparing for the just concluded IHF Challenge tournament in Djibouti.
It was Only excitement that denied the Police side a win as they thought that they had won the game at 25 all with just below 2 minutes to go, so they started wasting chances. Muwanga Muhammed top scored for UPDF with 7 goals while Kafeero Nasser, Nsubuga Godfrey and Akena Moses added 4 each. Okodi Michael and Atandu John top scored for Police Kifaru with 7 and 6 respectively.
Nkumba University Tornadoes didn’t find any hard nut to crack as they punished Ever Green 33 – 18. The University side seemed so composed from the start of the game all the way till the end. With the first half of the game ending at 18 – 10, and playing without their top tallies player Olivia, Ever Green couldn’t seem to find any way of stopping the Tornadoes’ attackers. Asina N, and Lamunu S top scored for Ever Green with 5 goals each while Aceru S added 3. Nakamanya Jessica registered double figures as she top scored for Nkumba with 10 goals while Abalo Florence added 7.
The league will take a break next weekend because of the Ndejje Open handball tournament scheduled for Saturday 20th April 2013 at the Ndejje University grounds.
