Uganda’s Elijah Emojong’s pursuit for a International Master title has gained momentum at the Zone 4.2 Africa Chess Championship in Cairo, Egypt with wins against Burundi’s Yves Ndikumana and Egypt’s Sadel Sameh rated 2352 to get six points out of a possible six.

He is now a full point ahead of closest challenger, Egypt’s IM Samy Shoker whom he is scheduled to play in the ninth and last round.

Emojong has three games left and was in the seventh round scheduled to play Egypt”s IM Hassan Sayed Barakat.

The Ugandan is on the verge of making history. Winning the event would grant him an International Master title, the first in East Africa and would offer a lifetime opportunity to represent Africa at the World Chess Cup
