Uganda’s celebrated rower, Gerald Gamreal Ssemambo is making headlines in the Holland, where he is undergoing a 4 month training spree with the Hollande Bekker.
“His agility and speed has improved tremendously, and he has caught the attention of the Dutch people and press particularly in Haarlem”, says Brock Sampson, one of Gerald’ coaches and mentors.
Ssemambo, who competed in the 2012 FISA Rowing World Senior & Junior Championships held at Plovdiv, Bulgaria, will participate in 2 world rowing championships, one world under 23 meet, one senior , one junior championship and of course the Hollande Bekker.
“He’s clearly improving and taking advantage of the dedicated training, intense work-outs and facilities”, says Rodrick Muhumuza, a local Rowing coach. Such training boasts endurance and strength ahead of international events, he adds.
Ssemambo recently posted a national record of 9:16:05 at the first Rowing Regatta of 2013 that was held at the Miami sand beach, in March.
Ssemambo’s Holland expenses were facilitated by Greenbelt Leisure Centre, his coaches Swaleh Kasibante Lwanyaga and Brock Sampson, the Uganda Rowing Association and Uganda Olympic Committee.
Meanwhile the Uganda Rowing Federation will hold their first Extra Ordinary Assembly this Friday 14th June 2013, at the Uganda Olympic Committee Offices starting at 2PM.
