National Basketball League main sponsors, Airtel Uganda has finally delivered the 60 Million sponsorship package to the Division one clubs. The brief but colourful ceremony, attended by team managers and coaches, FUBA offficials, partners and the press took place at the National Olympic Committee gardens, Lugogo.
“This cash delivery will help the clubs meet operational costs, but as sponsors we promise even a better package”, revealed Ali Balunywa, the Airtel Zonal Business manager.
At the same function, the federation announced a new partnership with American insurance giants, AIG covering all the league players on a 24 hours, 7 days a week basis. “Health is a very crucial aspect of life, we hope to cover 18 players per team in the main league”.
Club officials are expectant this is the start of the long trek to development of basketball in Uganda. ” I am very excited about the offer and i hope it will add morale to my boys”, said Silver Lugambwa, City Oil manager, whose team is set to play UCU this Friday.
FUBA vice president Administration, Patrick Benard Egwel challenged the clubs to be more accountable to the funds received. “This money must be used for the right cause. Feedback to sponsors is more valuable”, Egwel said.
