As the National Handball league first round comes to an end this weekend, seasoned campaigners, Police Metro will hope for one wish, to ensure a victory over bitter rivals, Prisons Spears.
Metro have struggled to get back on the road as they started on a wrong note losing 2 games and putting their title hopes on the wire.
Since 2010, they have been hidden in the shadows of UPDF’s dominance of the game and Prison but they seem to have got the winning mechanics. A victory will push Police direct to the top of the table but with 2 games more than Prison. Prison, on the other hand, will come with lots of motivation after last weekend’s big win against champions UPDF.
Boosting of the league’s top 2 marksmen in Akena Dominic and Kongo Ibrahim, it might be very difficult for Metro to stop them. Metro on the other hand has a handful of players who can make a difference in Semuju Frank Wyne, Aziz Yakub and Ociti Frank. Police also boasts of having the top most 2 goal keepers in the league. It’s going to be another mouth watering game as both teams are standing firm on the ground regarding the quality of players that are scheduled to line up for the game.
The other game of the day will have Arrows take on Kifaru. Arrows haven’t won a game this season and will come all out knowing that they are playing with a team more or less their size in terms of skill. Arrows is regarded as a first half team as they put up a show in the first half of the game but let it loose in the second half while Kifaru fight all the way to the last whistle. Both teams boost of top quality players from mainly schools who are so energetic and this will make it interesting as well given that both sets of teams have players who have a dream of stepping into bigger shoes of the league’s top players. A win for either team won’t however have any effect on the table standings but will boost the victor’s motivation.
The second round resumes on the 10th of August 2013.
