Ethiopia has become the first nation from the CECAFA region to make it to the final round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers. Ethiopia ensured their passage to the next round when they defeated South Africa 2-1 in Addis Ababa Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Bernard Parker fired Bafana Bafana ahead just after the half-hour mark but the visitors were unable to hold on to their lead as Getaneh Kebede netted the equaliser three minutes before the break. The home side took the lead for the first time in the 70th minute as Parker headed the ball into his own net while trying to clear a set piece.

The win maintained Ethiopia on top of group A with an unassailable 13 points with a game in hand.

Elsewhere, Cote D’iviore beat hosts Tanzania 4-2 in Dar es Salam to extinguish the Taifa Stars little Brazil hopes and book a place in the final round. The West African giants scored through a Yaya Toure brace and a goal a piece from Lucina Traore and Wilfred Bonny while Amir Kiemba and Thomas Uliwengu netted for Tanzania.
The Ivorians now lead group C with 13 points while second placed Tanzania are on 6 with just a game left.
