A team of 16 Uganda National Netball members , “She Cranes” have intensified their training sessions at the ultra Lugogo Indoor Stadium ahead of the 3rd African Nations Challenge Championships slated for 24-30 in the Malawian capital, Blantyre.
The team is conducting double training sessions under keen watchful eyes of their head coach, Nelson Bogere, his assistant Fred Mugerwa and Wilberforce Muteete, the physical trainer.
As the team is training ahead of the scheduled travel date of Saturday, 22 June, the technical wing is in a rush against time to ensure the welfare of the players is great.
“We are still looking for more funding to help meet logistical and operational costs. I therefore appeal to the government, companies and individuals to come out and assist the team”, Jocelyn Uchanda, the team manger tells Kawowo Sports Media in an exclusive interview.
The situation at the training ground could be summarized as demanding because some of the girls were seen drinking tap water from small jerrycans and used mineral water bottles. Some players who preferred anonymity for fears of being dropped from the traveling contingent complained of the high transport fares yet the money being given is not enough.
15 African nations including South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Namibia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya, Sychelles, Tanzania, Bostwana, Cameroon , Sierre Leone, Uganda and Malawi, the hosts and defending champions, have already confirmed participation for the week long event.
