Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB) Beach referee Hannington Nsuguba has tipped Robinson Tumwesigye and Leslie Mugisa to become fully certified international referees.
Tumwesigye and Mugisa finished first and third respectively out of 18 students in the just concluded Beach Volleyball International Referee Candidates Course in Sudan according to Daily Monitor. “The chances of them passing are high if they keep on practicing l have strong believe in them,” Nsubuga said.
“They are disciplined and love what they are doing which is very important and key,” he added.
The duo’s practical abilities will be put to test at a World Tour or Championship before they are evaluated and certified to be full FIVB beach referees. “We have the next next three years to have at least officiated at a world tour,” said Mugisa. “Until then we remain just candidate”
Currently Africa has 24 beach referees and Uganda with now three is behind Egypt who have 11. “It’s a great honor for us as Uganda,” Nsubuga said. “Being up there with the likes of Egypt is not a mere feat.”
Tumwesigye counts himself lucky since he is not like Mugisha and Nsubuga who have played the sport before. “I Have only been refereeing since 2011,” said Tumwesigye. “This achievement shows that through hard work and discipline everything is possible.”
Hadijja Namanda and Mofaht Masaba are the only FIVB Ugandan referee for indoor Volleyball. While Innocent Komakech, Denis Ochan and Samuel Bukoma are FIVB candidate referee.
