Ugandan goalkeeper Posnet Omwony is on his way out at South Africa Premier League (PSL) side Black Leopards when his contract expires at the end of the month after turning down the club’s proposal for him to immediately become a part of the club’s non-playing staff.
According to KickOff.com, the PSL side had preferred to retain the former Police and SC Villa custodian as a goal keeper coach but he insists he still wants to play and is ready to move to another club that offers him playing time.
“The club (Leopards) wanted to keep me as part of the non-playing staff possibly as a goalkeeper coach but that is not what I want right now in my career because as a goalkeeper I feel I am in my prime.
“I don’t want to stop playing right away and become a goalkeeper coach when I don’t even have any paperwork to back the knowledge that I have gained from my playing days.”
“So what will happen is that when my contract with the club expires at the end of the month I am leaving and my manager is already working on something for me. I still want to face up to the challenges of playing,” Omony says.
The keeper adds that he suspects Leopards were merely offering him to stay on at the club as part of the non-playing staff as a way of silencing him in the dispute that he still has with the club.
Omony has a breach of contract dispute with Leopards stemming from last year that is already with the PSL DRC. “It is all related to that certain conditions were not met when they recalled me to the first team after having initially played on transfer. That matter is now with the PSL because we have since submitted all the necessary documents,” he says.
