The National Basketball League entered the tenth week over the weekend with all games played at the MTN Arena in Lugogo. Two men’s games were played on Friday. UCU Canons remained unbeaten after seeing off Falcons 101-91 in a thriller. Guard, Suudi Ulanga scored season high 26 points to lead the way for Canons (7-0). Five other canons, Syrus Kiviri (13 points), Desmond Owili (12 points, 9 rebounds), Ivan Lumanyika (12 points, 15 rebounds) Boniface Okello (12 points) and Martin Okwako (12 points) scored in double figures. Falcons were paced by Steven omony’s double-double (27 points, 10 rebounds) but in a losing effort. “We basically tried to stay in it but it was tough” Falcons coach, Gad Eteu said. Guard, Abdulllahi Ramadhan added 22 points and center, Philip Ameny had 11. “We are capable of playing better but it takes sacrifice” Eteu.
Ndejje angels beat eagles 68-45 in the first game of Friday. Jonah Otim scored 12 points and Steven Okias added 11 to lead Angels (4-2). Last year’s regular season MVP, Geoffrey Soro had 6 points. “I need to get the Soro of last season back. May be am just comfortable with the big team not a lot of burden” he said. Eagles (0-8) were led by Brian Mutalwa with 11 points, Frank Karoro and Raymond Bukenya contributed 8 points apiece.
Isaac Afidra scored season high 27 points and grabbed 12 rebound to lead Dmark Power to an 86-59 win Charging Rhinos and snapped Rhinos’ 3-game winning streak while remaining unbeaten. Norman Blick added 15 points while Ben Komakech and Paul Odong contributed 10 points each. Fahmy Sebatindira scored 12 points to lead Rhinos (3-5) and Raymond Lubega chipped in with 11 and former Power, Derrick Katumba picked 10 rebounds.
Warriors bounced back from Wednesday’s loss to City Oilers with an 83-58 win over Vegetarians. Guard, Jude Ochen had a breakout game scoring season high 28 points to lead the way for warriors (5-2), Henry Malinga added 15 points and Brian Gumisiriza had 12. Vegetarians (0-8) were led by Bernard okumu with 23 points and 14 rebounds and Vennie Jurua chipped in with 10 points.
City Oilers saw off heaters 70-51 for a second straight win since losing to UCU. Samuel Kalanyi scored team high 14 points and picked 12 rebounds to lead Oilers (6-2). Forward, Arou Ramadhan also logged a double-double (12 points, 14 rebounds), Henry Mulira contributed 11 points and James Okello had 10. Heaters (1-7) were led by Farouk Omar with game high 17 points and 14 boards.
In the women’s division, defending champions, KCCA Leopards blew out school side, Nabisunsa 87-26. Three KCCA players notched double-doubles, Claire Lamunu (18 points, 15 rebounds), Hilda Naigaga (16 points, 10 rebounds) and Muhamina Namuwaya (14 points, 15 rebounds) while Flavia Oketcho and Charline Karungi contributed 10 points each for Leopards (8-0). Ritah Atuhaire had 9 points for Nabisunsa (0-7) and Zaina Lokwameri added 7.
UCU Lady Canons beat A1 Challenge 60-52 powered by Purity Adhimbo’s 25 points. Brenda Mbone added 11 for lady canons (7-0). Vickie Ntale led the way for Challenge (2-6) with 19 points and Mariam Birungi contributed 13 points.
