Former Uganda Cranes defender Ibrahim Sekagya has completed a move to Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls. Having trained with the side since June 26, the former Cranes skipper signed a two-year and a half year deal on a free transfer from Austria’s sister club Red Bull Salzburg.

Sekagya will be earning non-DP wages and impeccable sources to Kawowo Sports indicate the new contract will place the 32 year-old among the top earners at the club. The former KCCA FC player left Uganda over eight years ago and featured in the second Tier league in Argentina before moving to Red Bull Salzburg in June 2007 where he become a stalwart of the Austrian Bundesliga power.

At Salzburg, he went on to become a mainstay for the Austrian Bundesliga power, winning three titles in his time there including captaining them to the league and Cup double in the 2011 and 2012 season. The list of players that the Red Bulls have gotten from their Salzburg sister club has been underwhelming, from Markus Schopp to Ernst Öbster to Brian Nielsen.

He joins another Cranes defender Henry Kalungi who features for Richmond Kickers in the USL Professional Division. Suleiman Bonseu Tenywa and Byaruhanga are the other Ugandan players who have featured in the MSL in the US.
