Nemostars showed class and distinctiveness as they remained the only undefeated side in the National Volleyball Men’s Serie A following their 3-0 win over KAVC on Saturday night.

Known for their defensive approach, Amon Ainebyona, Pierre Kamugasha and Hannington Nsubuga tried to make life hard for Nemostars in the first two sets. That didn’t stop Tom Paul AMou, Louis Mubangizi and Aporu George from penetrating and forcing 25-22 and 25-21 victories in the first and second sets respectively.

With a strategy to stop Aporu’s lethal attacks, every KAVC’s serves were directed at him. He responded with excellent receptions to setter Smith Okumu and later followed them up with his traditional backcourt attacks from the middle and outside occasionally. “I told George (Aporu) that you are the target and being the player he is, he adjusted,” Nemostars coach Anthony Ndawula said.

In 3rd set, KAVC tweaked their approach and as a result they led the set with a three point difference for the most part of the set. But has always, wanting fitness and endurance levels forced KAVC to lose the set 25-23.

Though Nemostars came out on top KAVC’s attack specialist Kamugasha and Nsubuga were at the forefront of the charge making numerous points for the 2010 league winners.

It was Nemostars 21st straight win in the regular season and the seventh for this season. “Unbeaten run is nothing,” said Nadwula “We want to be in the playoffs as soon as possible.”

With the NSSF KAVC International drawing closer, skipper Ainebyona is looking at upcoming challenges. “This game was more of a buildup for us, and we will approach Nkumba and Sport-S in the same manner,” Ainebyona said. “Our focus is on the upcoming NSSF KAVC International,” he added.
