Tuesday Result: Mpindi 5-1 Nkerebwe

Wed, 17 July: Njaza Vs Njobe

Nana Ntabazi produced a match winning performance in the Bika Bya Baganda football tournament match played as Nakivubo with a beautiful hat trick as Mpindi walloped Nkerebwe 5-1.

Captain Yudah Mugalu and Ivan Mbowa sealed Nkerebwe’s fate at a thrilling match watch by a small crowd. Francis Ssebaneya scored Nkerebwe’s consolation strike.

Mpindi’s victory means they will play the winner between Nseenene and Namungona next week come the round of 16.

Meanwhile, the Bika organizing committee has eliminated Mmamba Gabunga from this year’s tournament over what they termed ‘gross-indiscipline’ from the Clan members. Mmamba Gabunga had been initially drawn to open this year’s championships with her sister clan, Mmamba Kakooboza in the very opening game of the tournament but the match was removed at the last minute. Mbogo instead opened with Effumbe where the former won courtesy of Nelso Ssenkatuuka’s strike.

For the last two years, Mmamba Gabunga has had unresolved issues with the organizers after the head of Mmamba Kakooboza, Nankere shook hands with the Kabaka, which is contrary to the traditions of the Kingdom.

“Nankere performs some functions at the Kabaka’s coronation and after that he is not supposed to get any where near him”, says Busiro Ssaza chief, Ssebwana. On the contrary, during the 2012’s opening , Nankere shook the Kabaka’s hands, something that prompted Mmamba Gabunga to pull out of this annual sports event meant to unite Kabaka and his subjects through the universal sport of football.

This edition, the draw for the tournament ironically placed the two rival clans together. The two teams were due to play last week until a last minute communication from the organizers calling off the game.

Action continues on Wednesday at Nakivubo Stadium when Njaza hosts Njobe.
