Regional teams are eyeing the Castle Lite Inter Region golf tournament that swings action this Saturday at the 18 hole Kilembe golf club.
The defending champions Western region will have to cope up with Buganda region who have a side that has been together for a while and has persistent players on their side.
“We are prepared for the tournament and we have a good side to challenge for the crown,” Robert Mukasa, the captain of the Buganda region said on phone. “It’s a new challenge especially the course and the reigning champions have an advantage since most of the players come from Toro and Kilembe, they know the terrain better.”
Buganda will field a strong side that includes top lady golfer Flavia Namakula, Irene Nakalembe, Rookie Brenda Ngabo and in-form Kathy Kabenge others include Peter Sendawula, Henry Lujja, Gerald Kabuye, Abbey Bagalana, Godfrey Mawejje and others
The defending champions will line-up a strong side that includes the bulk of the junior national team that includes Daniel Baguma, Ronald Otile, Richard Baguma, Joseph Cwinyai, Titus Okwong, Adolf Muhumuza, Lawrence Muhenda, Happy Robert,Collins Acellam and Serapio Mugenyi just to mention.
“We are prepared to retain our crown and we don’t fear any of our challengers,” George Bagambisa, the manager of Western Region told Kawowo sports. “At the moment we are trying to trim down the team to 24 players that includes 20 male players and four women at the moment the team is undergoing a practice session in Kilembe.”
Deo Akope, the coach for Eastern Region was buried in a meeting when Kawowo Sports called him. Northern Region will be led by their captain Solomon Kego.
